🛒 There’s a Buy button on the SERP now. Your products either have it or they don’t.
Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol checkout has expanded from AI Mode into standard Google Search. Logged-in shoppers can complete a purchase using Google Pay directly inside product listings without ever visiting your site. Retailers not enrolled in UCP get a click to their site, if the shopper bothers to take it.
AI-attributed orders on Shopify grew 11x between January 2025 and March 2026. The buyers driving that growth are transacting on Google’s surface, not yours.
The eligibility gap is a feed problem, not a development problem.
Most UCP implementation failures are not API issues. They are structured data gaps that disqualify products before any developer work is needed.
Three things to audit in Merchant Center before touching any engineering resources:
native_commerce attribute: this is what actually triggers the Buy button. If it is not set on eligible SKUs, the button does not appear regardless of everything else being correct
hasMerchantReturnPolicy completeness: incomplete return policy data is one of the most common disqualifiers and one of the easiest to fix
Shipping configuration accuracy: mismatched or missing shipping settings block eligibility at the feed level
Most brands find all three gaps in the feed audit and never need to escalate to development at all.
Check your platform before assuming you’re blocked.
Confirmed UCP partners currently include Shopify, BigCommerce, Walmart, Target, Etsy, Wayfair, PayPal, and Stripe. If your storefront runs on Shopify or BigCommerce, integration is closer than it looks. If your platform is not on the list yet, that is your first conversation with your development team, not your last.
Track whether UCP eligibility improvements are shifting your AI discovery performance alongside checkout availability. SEMrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit tracks citation and visibility movement across ChatGPT and Google AI Mode so you can confirm whether products gaining UCP eligibility are also gaining retrieval in AI-assisted shopping queries. You can try it free for 7 days here.
Build the attribution before the channel scales.
UCP transactions complete on Google’s surface without a site visit, which means revenue from these purchases will not appear in standard analytics without deliberate setup. Establish server-side order tracking for UCP transactions now. The brands building measurement infrastructure before the channel scales will have optimization data to act on while competitors are still reconciling revenue they cannot explain.
The Buy button is live. The feed audit takes an afternoon.
📢 Google and OpenAI add new advertising capabilities
Google and OpenAI announced new tools aimed at helping advertisers better test creative performance and manage campaigns. The updates reflect how both companies are building more mature advertising ecosystems around AI-powered products.
The Breakdown:
Advertisers get more control over experiments - Performance Max users can now test entirely new asset groups, compare seasonal versus evergreen creatives, evaluate individual assets, and measure the impact of AI-generated content from Asset Studio before making broader campaign changes.
More ways to evaluate success - Google is adding support for multiple success metrics within experiments, while also bringing conversion lift studies and testing tools together under a single Experiments page for easier analysis.
More than one advertiser can appear in a single sponsored result - OpenAI has started testing ad units that group multiple relevant advertisers together, creating additional opportunities for brands to appear during high-intent user conversations.
New markets and campaign tools are rolling out - OpenAI is extending geographic targeting to the UK, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Mexico while adding features like budget conversions, campaign cloning, bulk editing, custom CPM bidding, and more flexible budget pacing.
Google is helping marketers make smarter creative decisions with structured testing, while OpenAI is steadily building ChatGPT into a more sophisticated advertising platform capable of competing for larger brand budgets.

What Works:
Decision Compression - Energy, focus, immunity, and metabolism are presented as four simple outcomes. The brand removes the burden of interpreting complex supplement science.
Stack Replacement - The ad positions one bottle as a replacement for multiple wellness products. This increases perceived value without discussing price.
Functional Mapping - Each ingredient is paired directly with a benefit. Consumers instantly connect the “why” behind the formulation without needing additional education.
If your product contains multiple ingredients, don’t force consumers to decode the formula. Translate every ingredient into a real-life outcome and organize the creative around the benefits people want, not the compounds you’ve included.
